Javed Akhtar Trolled For Praising Shanmukhpriya’s Singing Style, Infuriated Netizens Advice The Makers!

The controversy surrounding Indian Idol season 12 seems to be never-ending. Of late, the show has been under the radar of netizens for several reasons. While many fans have consistently called out the show for its “biasedness”, few others have unabashedly targeted some contestants. And Shanmukhpriya is one of those contestants who has been targeted by social media trolls. However, she found her support in veteran lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar who praised Shanmukhpriya for her “confident” style. And this has not gone down well with the netizens!

Recently, Javed Akhtar joined in as the special guest on Indian Idol 12. While the makers dedicated this special episode to the veteran, the contestants were seen tuning to his legendary songs. Shanmukhpriya performed on the ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ title song and garnered appreciation from Javed as well as the other judges. Javed went on to praise her whilst calling out the “male chauvinists” who criticize her on social media.

“You should be criticized because male chauvinists in the country don’t like a smart, confident, and competent girl like you,” Javed said. Following this, the internet was flooded with some mean comments against Shanmukhpriya and the veteran writer. While some fans calmly highlighted the “biasedness” of the show, a few others dissed Javed for his “male ego” card.

A few netizens also went on to advice the judges that they should “praise and criticize” the contestants based on their singing style. “#Sawaibhatt getting eliminated… and #ShanmukhaPriya still in the show….. This is just impossible worst judging by the judges #IndianIdol,” one user wrote. Well, this is not the first time netizens have been infuriated by the judging panel of Indian Idol 12. Fans have been consistently calling out the makers regarding the same.

For those unaware, Indian Idol 12 has been in the limelight for many wrong reasons. Earlier last month, the show was criticized for creating a “fake romantic angle” among the contestants.
