Mai Hero Boll Raha Hu: Why Patralekha’s Character Reminds Us Of Monica Bedi

The header “inspired from true events” prior to the film’s beginning is something that has always excited the audience. However, it’s not the real and apt documentation that makes a story more intriguing. When a filmmaker blends real stories with cinematic liberty, the result is always more than amazing. Similarly, director Siddhartha Luther and writer Suparn Varma have pulled off the magic with their new show Mai Hero Boll Raha Hu. ZEE5’s latest release is garnering rave reviews from critics as well as the masses.

Also, an interesting aspect of the show is that it portrays the infamous connection between the world of #GunsAndGlamour. And that’s one of the reasons why the show is becoming a colossal hit among the viewers. The show follows the story of Nawab (Parth Samthaan) as he embarks on a journey to be the gangster of Bombay. The makers have weaved an engaging crime drama subtly using some real-life incidents.

And one such highlight of MHBRH is Laila’s character which is ultimately reminding the viewers of actor Monica Bedi’s tragic story. We tell you how.

Monica Bedi And Abu Salem: Lovers Broken Up By Crime!

The real-life underworld don Abu Salem was found guilty in the conspiracy of 1993 Bombay blasts. The serial blasts killed nearly 250 people and Salem’s infamous acts made headlines. However, further, it was his Bollywood connection that brought him into the limelight again. Abu was dating Bollywood actor Monica Bedi.

Their affair began in 1998 and the couple was quite serious about their relationship. Also, they moved to America to forge a new beginning in their lives. However, it all came to an end when Abu and Monica were arrested in 2005 by Interpol. In 2017, Salem was sentenced to life imprisonment. In many of her interviews, Monica had openly talked about their “serious” relationship.

The Reel-Life Version

Well, the fictitious version in Mai Hero Boll Raha Hu is not exactly the same. The writer and director have perfectly given a cinematic touch to this angle between Nawab and Laila. And that’s the beauty of this unexpected twist in the show! While Nawab emerges as a gangster, Laila (Patralekhaa) is a renowned Bollywood actress. They both are head over heels in love with each other.

However, chaos ensues when their relationship crumbles down and love gets replaced by ego. Eventually, Laila ends up forging a plan to trap Nawab, and the latter gets caught by the police. This ultimately makes up for a great climax.

So, we can say that Laila’s character is partially inspired by Monica Bedi’s story. Though not very aptly, a few story arcs including “serious love affair” definitely remind us of Monica Bedi and Abu Salem’s infamous love affair.
