Samantha was excited to start a family, says producer Neelima Guna

Silencing all the trolls and rumour mongers, Shaakuntalam producer Neelima Guna has revealed that Samantha Akkineni was in fact, planning to have a baby. The statement comes after people have been blaming and unfairly judging the actress for the unfounded rumours that Samantha didn’t want to have a baby.

In an interview with The News Minute, Neelima said that Samantha was planning to have a child and had requested the makers to finish the shooting by July/August this year. She had said the baby would be her priority and she would take a long break from films after her delivery. According to Guna, Samantha was very keen to start a family with Naga Chaitanya.

Samantha was apprehensive to sign the project as she felt that taking up a period film might clash with her plans of starting a family. Only when the producers assured her about pre-production work and exhaustive planning, Samantha signed the project. Since the producers wanted to keep the promise, the schedule was never given a break.

Guna said,  “As soon as she heard that, she was very happy and onboard this. She told me that this would be her last film and that after this, she wants to take a long break and have children, plan her family. Through the schedules also, we never took a break since we wanted to accommodate this request from her side.

As soon as the couple announced their divorce, social media is rife with speculations about the causes behind the split. People have been blaming Samantha for the divorce. False stories about Samantha not wanting to have a baby, having abortions, and being an opportunist have been doing the rounds.

On the other hand, Samantha has also received immense support from her fans and friends. Responding to all the support and slamming the negativity, Samantha had posted “Thank you all for showing deep empathy, concern and for defending me against false rumours and stories that are being spread. They say I had affairs, never wanted children, that I am an opportunist, and now that I have had abortions…”
