Chandra and Martin discuss the increase in the demand for indigo. Martin mentions to Chandra that the farmers cultivate indigo in return for loans. Further, Martin tells Chandra that Gangaram is a dacoit. Rani worries that the farmers are being pressurised into cultivating indigo. Later, Mahesh, a farmer, refuses to cultivate indigo on his land. Chandra is determined to educate Rani as education is the only way to liberate women. Rani and Chandra spend some romantic moments with each other.
