Jagadamba sees Subola mixing some suspicious liquid in Karuna's milk and reveals her actions to everyone in the family. Anandamoyee and the midwife confirm that the milk is poisoned. Rani decides to send Subola back to her village. Ishwar introduces Umacharan, a pandit, to Rani so that he can take care of the Marh family's 'puja' duties. Mathur consoles Karuna, who is worried for her child. Jagadamba overhears Padma scolding Sukumari for her evil actions and warning her to not harm Karuna.
