Laksmi Bai was the daughter of Maratha Brahmin Moropant Tambe from Varanasi. Called Manikarnika when young, she defeated boys in kabaddi while most girls her age did housework. 

Manikarnika wed Jhansi's king, Gangadhar Rao, when just a little girl. Widowed as a teenager, she became a formidable warrior and personified feminine strength. The TV show portrays how an ordinary woman became a leader in India’s freedom struggle.
