Mathur warns Jagadamba against growing attached to him and threatens to leave the house. Padma mentions that she never supported Jagadamba and Mathur’s marriage. Rani offers to visit Rangpur in place of Mathur since Jagadamba fears for his life. Mathur assures Rani that he is capable of fending off the dacoits if attacked. Jagadamba gives Chandra’s gun to Mathur. Madhab sees Mathur off at the docks and notices a man trying to sell-off Boddi Moshai’s widowed daughter, Kusum, to a lecherous man.
