Dia Mirza is gearing up for the release of her digital debut vehicle, a ZEE5 Original web series Kaafir. The actress will be seen as a Pakistani woman, Kainaaz Akhtar, who ends up in an Indian jail. Thus, for her character, Dia shall feature in the web show wearing a hijab in combination with salwar kameez. Notably, this is the first time the actress shall be seen in the avatar.

Actress Deepika Padukone was seen in a burqa for one of the scenes in her debut film Om Shanti Om. Can you guess which song this still is from?

Alia Bhatt is known to sink her teeth deep into the skin of her characters. To essay Sehmat in Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi, an Indian undercover spy agent married to a Pakistani officer, she wore a burqa in quite many scenes. She brought to life the character of Safeena Firdausi in Gully Boy, a traditional but headstrong Muslim girl, she wore a hijab over her usual attire of kurta and jeans in the film.

Priyanka Chopra played an Anglo-Indian woman, Susanna Anna-Marie Johannes in 7 Khoon Maaf, who murders all her six husbands. It is for her third husband Wasiullah Khan (played by Irrfan Khan) that Susanna wears a burqa and a hijab.

For a brief stint in the film Mere Brother ki Dulhan, Katrina Kaif and Imran Khan disguise themselves as a Muslim couple as can be seen in the picture.

Shraddha Kapoor played the titular role of Haseena Parkar in the latter’s biopic. Haseena was the sister of the most wanted mafia don Daud Ibrahim.

Tabu played Ghazala Meer (Haider Meer’s mother) in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2014 Indian drama Haider. The movie is a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet and an adaptation of Basharat Peer’s memoir Curfewed Night, set amidst the insurgency-hit Kashmir conflicts of 1995 and civilian disappearances.

For her role of Ghazala, Tabu mostly sported a hijab in the movie.

In Alankrita Shrivastava’s film Lipstick Under My Burkha, Konkona Sen Sharma essayed a burqa-clad house-wife Shireen Aslam. Shireen was a mother to three boys, had a sexually dominating husband and thus, would secretly work as a door-to-door sales-girl

In Lipstick Under My Burkha, Plabita Borthakur played Rehana Abidi, a fresher in college, who sews burkhas for her family’s store. Rehana would steal make-up to wear at college; she’d leave her home wearing a burqa but remove it on reaching college and transform into a jeans-wearing singer who loves Miley Cyrus.
