Throughout the early 2000s Emraan Hashmi has done multiple movies early in his career that planted the serial kisser tag. However, he also has shown an real liking for movies based on true events. The latest in that line being ZEE5’s latest release Why Cheat India.

Jannat was the first movie Emraan Hashmi did that is explicitly based on real-life events. It takes an honest look at the match-fixing scandal where Emraan Hashmi plays the role of a bookie. It makes references to the IPL, death of Bob Woolmer and even subtle references to Navjot Singh Siddhu. Emraan Hashmi even met a few bookies in Bombay to prepare for this role.

Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010)

This iconic movie had Emraan Hashmi playing the role of a young Dawood Ibrahim to perfection. This movie got critical acclaim and has a became a big hit with the audiences. Sharing screen space with Ajay Devgn, this movie ran into trouble for portraying the mafia and dons like like Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim.

The Dirty Picture (2011)

This movie based on the life of South siren Silk Smitha’s life, was no stranger to controversy. While this movie revolved around Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi played a small but vital role in the film. His role of a director who hates Silk Smitha is rumored to be based on Mahesh Bhatt, his mentor, in the film industry.

Azhar (2014)

This move takes a more direct look at the life of famous cricketer Mohammed Azharrudin. After playing the role of a bookie in Jannat, Emraan Hashmi played the role of Azharuddin who was accused of match fixing. This movie caused controversy for it’s portrayal of ex-cricketers like Ravi Shastri and Navjot Singh Siddhu.

Tigers (2014)

This movie was shot in the year 2014, and is based on the Nestle baby milk scandal. It was so controversial at the time that it wasn’t allowed to be released. Luckily it saw the light of day on ZEE5. Watch Emraan Hashmi’s earnest performance as a salesman in Tigers, available on ZEE5.
