Fatteshikast is a dramatic picturisation of Shivaji Maharaj’s attack on Shaista Khan who had taken refuge in Lal Mahal, Pune. Based on the first-ever surgical strike carried out by the Marathas, the film presents an account of the events that took place before and after the surprise attack. The period drama directed by Digpal Lanjekar is packed with high-octane action along with the narration of significant events in history. Here are a few scenes from the film that we absolutely can’t forget.

1. Jijabai’s Smashing Entry
Jijabai looked after the kingdom in Shivaji Maharaj’s absence and handled the Maratha army all by herself. We get to witness Jijabai’s fearlessness during the initial few minutes of the film. The enemy has set camp at the base of Rajgad and is ready to attack Shivaji’s capital. Jijabai senses the danger and goes all guns blazing in this scene. She points the canons on the enemy forces and destroys their camp, thus making a smashing entry in the film.
2. Shivaji Maharaj’s Declaration Of War
Aurangzeb had sent his maternal uncle Shaista Khan (Anup Soni) to take down the Maratha empire under the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Shaista Khan then went about wreaking havoc in the city of Pune, looting many places, and capturing the forts to gain control over the kingdom. Shivaji Maharaj didn’t strike the first blow until Shaista Khan presented him with a gift of the severed head belonging to one of his loyalists. Shivaji Maharaj was furious over such a brutal beheading of his Maratha soldier and decided to wage war against the Mughal general.
3. Kartalab Khan’s Surrender
Kartalab Khan was appointed by Shaista Khan on a mission to destroy Rajgad. The Maratha had devised a strategy to defeat Kartalab Khan and his army in a battle. They let Kartalab Khan advance his way and reach Umberkhind where he faced a surprise attack from the Marathas. The Mughal general was outwitted in the battle and received a heavy blow as he was forced to surrender himself. This scene in the film is a reminder of how capable the Maratha soldiers were in using guerilla warfare.
4. Shivaji Maharaj’s Pep Talk With His Soldiers
Shivaji Maharaj and his army were all set to lock horns with Shaista Khan. The Maratha king had waited for long before launching the attack on Lal Mahal to kill Shaista Khan. Before they marched ahead, Shivaji Maharaj gives out an encouraging speech to lift the spirits of his soldiers. The war cry he gives in this scene is guaranteed to give you goosebumps!
5. Battle At Lal Mahal
The Maratha army enters Lal Mahal through tact and gets down to business immediately after. They split into groups and fight the Mughal soldiers who are taken by surprise. The Maratha ultimately emerge victorious in the battle at Lal Mahal as many of the Mughals including Shaista Khan’s son Fatteh Khan are killed. The action-packed battle scene is an absolute visual treat to watch.
6. Shaista Khan’s Chase
Shaista Khan saw the worst of his nightmares come true after finding Shivaji lurking around in his room ready to strike him. He has no time to think and has to run for his life. Shivaji keeps on the chase and finally hunts him down in the Lal Mahal. Just as he’s about to kill Shaista Khan, Shivaji Maharaj is disturbed by the sound of horns which signalled that the enemy is approaching. However, he is successful in cutting Shaista Khan’s three fingers before the latter could escape the palace.
