1. The plot

A commercial film requires many factors to make it a unique and refreshing experience for the audience. It should have a good story, make the audience laugh, cry, whistle, and at the end of it, carry a piece of it home. The 2017 Punjabi film Super Singh has enough reason to be your favourite movie as it has all the elements to satisfy your hunger for entertainment. Scroll down to find out what they are.

Watch a song from Super Singh here:

Usually, in a superhero film, we see less of emotions and more of action. We see that the protagonist has to save the world and that’s it. One can expect a lot of maar-dhaad but the story doesn’t really touch you. Well, Super Singh is a brilliant exception. Apart from Diljit Dosanjh saving the world, it has a beautiful plot with a message too. Sajjan Singh’s (Diljit) mother believes in a saint (played by Pawan Malhotra) but the saint wants to become a god. So he plans to take the magical pagdi (turban) that gives Diljit superpowers. When Diljit finds out about him, he tells his mother to stay away from the saint. He further says that it’s our mistake that we forget the real god and become a devotee of such fake godmen.

2. The love story

We have discussed the plot, now let’s discuss one of the major sub-plots of the film. Sajjan loves Cathy (Alexandra Bandean) and he ignores his childhood friend Twinkle Kaur (Sonam Bajwa). Sajjan tries his best to woo Cathy, and even becomes half-angrej for her. Twinkle knows Sajjan’s true feelings, but still, she hides her love and helps him to woo Cathy. When Cathy ditches Sajjan, he heads back to share the news with Twinkle. He lashes out at Twinkle and it breaks her heart. Thus, she decides to leave Canada for Punjab. Sajjan realises his love for Twinkle and follows her. Finally, Diljit saves Twinkle from goons and confesses that he was pendu enough not to recognise true love.

3. The comedy

Another entertaining part about Super Singh is its genuinely funny moments. If you have Diljit in a film, there will be a dose of laughter too. The entry shot of Diljit shows him reading a fashion manual and eyeing the firangan roaming around the shopping complex. Apart from fighting baddies, Super Singh also helps aunties in grocery shopping. When Super Singh becomes popular and saves Twinkle from goons, Rana Ranbir disguises as Super Singh and tries to get close to Twinkle, that too in Sajjan’s presence. However, later it is revealed that this charade was planned by Twinkle just to get Sajjan’s confession.

4. The action

Super Singh has enough punches and dhamkedaar action set pieces to enjoy. As soon as Diljit dons the special turban, he faces neighbourhood bullies and it leads to an entertaining fight with basketball thrown into the mix. When Twinkle moves back to Punjab, she gets trapped, but Super Singh comes and fights it out with the goons. He uses his special power of ultra-speed where he shifts the positions of the henchmen, diverts bullets, and changes the whole scenario of the fight. Even his final fight with the saint is worth watching as he fights him as a normal guy, daring to stand against injustice without superpowers.

5. All that VFX

This is the primary factor of any superhero film. Thanks to exposure to Hollywood, we have high expectations from this genre and cannot stand mediocre visual effects. Super Singh, on the other hand, has eye-popping, dazzling effects that one can enjoy. When Super Singh lifts a big cruise ship on one hand, when he takes a bullet on his chest, when he flies away and fights baddies in his style — it all looks real. You are assured of an entertaining ride with this film!

So these are the elements that make Super Singh your next favourite. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
