The men of Paurashpur were real male chauvinists. But women are far stronger and more independent now, and you can’t pull off patriarchal stunts easily anymore!

Zee5’s new period drama Paurashpur, which is based in the 17th century, essentially revolves around the echelons of kingdom Paurashpur where men rule over everyone else. Masochism and patriarchy are the two pillars of that kingdom and women have no say whatsoever. However, it isn’t the 17th century anymore. Long gone are the days where women used to be subjects of patriarchal oppression and had no room to say ‘no’. Although a LOT more remains to be changed for women, one can’t deny that we have made considerable progress. Women are more liberal now and there are so many things that cannot be pulled off by men like that of Paurashpur anymore.

Watch the latest episode of Paurashpur here:

Here is a list of things the men of Paurushpur won’t be able to pull off in today’s world of liberated women:

1. Oppress women in the name of gender superioity

Even though patriarchy still exists in some parts of the world, not all women are subjects of that social system anymore. In today’s society, so many women are leaders and have the power to make the world a better place. From becoming the Vice President of a powerful nation to fighting this pandemic on frontlines, there isn’t anything that women can’t achieve.

2. Treat women as slaves

In Paurashpur, King Bhadrapratap treats his wives like slaves, and that cannot be pulled off easily in today’s society because women are a lot stronger now and are encouraged to not put up with any sort of demeaning behavior from the husband’s side.

3. Unequal treatment

In the trailer when Boris asks king Bhadrapratap when will the gap between men and women be cemented, he answers by saying ‘never’; but he cannot be more wrong. So many feminists and others who believe in gender equality are fighting tooth and nail every day to ensure that everybody in this world is treated fairly and equally.

4. Treat women as objects

King Bhadrapratap is a masochist man who forces himself on women but women of today’s world know better than that. They know the importance of consent and will not tolerate being treated as mere objects only meant for pleasure and gratification.

5. Control or dictate women

We have seen in the trailers of Paurashpur that women are told what to do and how to be. That is something seriously frowned upon in today’s society. Women have the right to decide who they wish to be and what they wish to do in life. They don’t need anybody else to tell them otherwise, isn’t it right ladies?
