It is the story of Pranbir, a soldier, who is in love with Aarti. But he misunderstands her and leaves to fight a war. In the camp, he meets Ratneshwar who is his lookalike. He is married to Swati. A 1970 drama which was also later made into a Hindi film, Amar Prem – starring Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore and directed by Shakti Samanta — Nishi Padma is written and directed by Aravinda Mukherjee.
