Zee TV’s popular serial Kumkum Bhagya stars Sriti Jha as Pragya and Shabir Ahluwalia as Abhi in the lead roles. In a recent episode of the show, we saw that Tanu (Leena Jumani) falsely accused Abhi of raping her in order to seek her revenge from Pragya and Abhi. He was arrested by the police and was taken into custody. Rape is a heinous crime that deserves the hardest punishment but women often use it in the wrong way. There have been real-life instances when a lady has falsely accused a male for her selfish interests. To recall some of them, here are some of the cases where men were falsely accused of rape by women in India.

Indore’s teen tried to fool the police with a fake rape case
In January 2021, a rape case was registered by Indore police when 19- year girl alleged that she was abducted and gang-raped by five men and was dumped on a railway track. A tenant in the house she lived in, who was a 25-year-old male, was detained by the police when in her statement she stated that he was one of the culprits. The girl kept changing her statement throughout the investigation and after much probing, she along with her live-in partner revealed that they concocted the story. She had previously been involved in a similar case and had gotten a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the government so it is quite possible that she hatched the false plan in order to earn some more money.

Man spent 20 years in jail for false rape case
Lalitpur’s Vishnu Tiwari spent two decades in jail for a crime he never committed. In September 2000, Vishnu was arrested by the police in a rape case where the woman, her husband and her father-in-law stated that Vishnu had taken advantage of the woman in the fields. He was accused of sexual as well as physical assault of the woman when she was five months pregnant. After 20 years, the Allahabad High Court accepted the truth and released Vishnu Tiwari from jail.
Minor daughter falsely accused her father of rape
In Ghaziabad, a girl accused her own father of raping her in 2017. The girl filed a false complaint after being provoked by her maternal uncle to do so. The father was arrested by the police on the basis of the complaint and spent three years in jail for a crime he never committed. Later during the trial, the daughter accepted that she registered the complaint on the insistence of her uncle and that her father was innocent. The maternal uncle was sentenced to one-month imprisonment along with a Rs 50,000 fine.
Woman accused neighbour of raping her daughter
In another incident of Ghaziabad, a woman accused her neighbour of raping her daughter at night. The man named Rajat was booked by the police on the basis of the complaint filed against him. During the court proceeding, the judge of the case found out that the allegations against Rajat were false and that there was no evidence against him. The woman was fined Rs 20,000 and if she failed to pay the amount she would be imprisoned for 15 days.

Women falsely accused two men of gang rape
In another case, a woman accused two men of gang-raping her in a car after promising a job in 2019 in the Satara district of Maharashtra. During the investigation of the crime, it was revealed that one of the accused was out of the country when the alleged crime took place and the other was in Pune. The woman had filed the complaint in order to taint the image of the men in society.
Woman accused a man of raping her minor children
In Mumbai, a 52-year-old man was accused by a woman of raping her minor children. The man was arrested and spent two years in jail for a crime he never committed. The woman filed the false complaint because the man could have told her husband about her involvement with another man. The children were insinuated by the woman to give a false statement to the police and the court. The man was later declared innocent and released from custody.
