Myth 1 - Buying and touching a deck of tarot cards is bad luck

ZEE5 Original web series High Priestess, staring Amala Akkineni, explores the concepts of supernatural and tarot cards in eight episodes. It brings to light things that have long been used as a form of mockery or comedy. And while tarot cards are full of mystery and myths, not all of them might be true. We busted six of these that you possibly thought to be true.

A popular myth about tarot cards is that you should not buy your own deck as it will bring bad luck. Also, it is believed that one mustn’t allow others to touch their deck. That is completely false. Practitioners believe that you must buy the deck that attracts you and one can touch the deck to establish a better understanding of the querent’s energies.

Myth 2 - Tarot cards can tell the future

Tarot cards aren’t fortune tellers. They are used only as a medium to gain a better understanding of situations. When a person is stuck at the same place or with a problem, the most that the cards can do is give some clarity on the situation and help one make better decisions.

Myth 3 - Tarot card readers are psychics or witches

Another popular belief is that tarot card readers are either witches or psychics. This is as true as the importance of T in ‘Tsunami’. Anyone keen on understanding the concepts and deeper meaning of tarot cards can learn the art and read them.

Myth 4 - Reversed cards bring bad luck

When shuffling the deck of tarot cards, some cards are upright while some turn inverted. This is all that matters. The rest remains false. The inverted or reverse cards do not bring in bad luck or evil spirits, they simply indicate that something is going wrong in the querent’s life.

Myth 5 - Reading your own cards is wrong

It is suggested that one does not read their own tarot cards, true. Not because the reading would be wrong or false, but because when reading one’s own cards, a person could be biased and unable to have a rational approach.

Myth 6 - The death card means one will die

One of the most untrue myths ever is regarding the death card. In tarot, the death card does not indicate the death of a person. In fact, it means the end of something and the beginning of something else. It could mean the end of a relationship and the beginning of a new one. Or the end of one business venture and the beginning of another.
