1. Mythical character

This isn’t the first time in the Zee Telugu show Kalyana Vaibhogam that Nithya has adopted another look to get things done. This time around, she has turned into an old lady named Manthara. There’s a lot more to her latest guise that we think you may have missed.

For starters, the name ‘Manthara’ that Nithya has given her character dates back to the Treta Yug, to the Ramayana. In Sanskrit, it means ‘hunch-back’, which is the most noticeable feature of this lady.

2. Foul-mouthed

By nature, Manthara is supposedly a person who rarely speaks good things or uses good language. Similarly, Nithya has been cussing everyone left, right and centre since she turned Manthara.

3. Aims for destruction

In the Ramayana, Manthara is credited with brainwashing Kaikayi into sending Ram on an exile and turning tables around. The popular belief is that goddess Saraswati turned words around to send Ram away because his duty, as the incarnate of Vishnu, was to kill evil. Here, Nithya is doing the wrong but there’s no good that will come out of it.

4. Takes pleasure in others' misery

Manthara was a cunning lady right from the start. She knew how to spin her words around and get whatever she wanted. Nithya, too, has been using her words carefully to tell everyone about the destruction but is also leaving space to watch them suffer slowly.

5. Ugly inside out

Another dominant trait of this mythical character is her ugliness. While her tone and language are foul, it is believed that she was ugly even in her outer appearance. Nithya, who looked better the previous time, has gone all out to add more wrinkles, dark spots, blemishes and scars on her skin.

6. Repents much later

By the time Ram returned from his 14-year long exile, Manthara was left in a dark room all by herself. There she repented for her sins and the Lord forgave her when she fell to his feet and apologised. Considering this, Nithya has a long way ahead of her before she realises her sins and repents. But we believe, like Lord Ram, Manga too will forgive her instantly.
