The Telugu film Srimanthudu, starring Mahesh Babu and Shruti Haasan, is an inspirational drama that will make you think of doing something good for people around you. Just like the film’s title, its hero is a ‘srimanthudu’ in all possible ways.

The word ‘srimanthudu’ is usually used to describe a wealthy person. In a broader sense, a ‘srimanthudu’ is also a man who selflessly helps people. In the film, Mahesh Babu‘s character, Harshvardhan, brings the word to life.

In the film, the one time when Harsha attends a board meeting in office, his friend, played by Vennela Kishore, asks for help. The help is nothing related to work. But because his friend wants to create a better impression at work, Harsha behaves as if they were outside the office at his request.

Harsha’s father, played by Jagapati Babu, avoids mingling with his employees for a reason unknown to us. But Harsha isn’t like his father. He makes sure to be present at an event organised by workers on the occasion of Ramanavami. He also helps an employee arrange funds for his daughter’s wedding. In fact, he says, “maa inti ammayi, baga chuskuvali” (She is our family’s daughter, you must take good care of her.)

Harsha, as described by his father, stayed away from the family for studies so that he could learn more and be a better person. Even when his father asks him to take over the business, Harsha decides to take up another course and learn something new.

In the big bad world of business, everyone is competing against each other. When competition tries to threaten Harsha’s father and his family, Harsha makes his way to another city to talk to the minister peacefully and ask him to keep his men away from his family.

Harsha is the calm and cool guy who speaks only when necessary. He avoids all sorts of contacts that has the potential to cause trouble. But when it is inevitable, he deals in ways that do not disturb anyone else. In fact, in the fight sequence at the wedding, nobody other than Harsha and the goons know there is a fight going on.

Inspired by Charuseela, played by Shruti Haasan, and her ideology, Harsha leaves his family and the luxurious lifestyle to live in a village and help the villagers develop it. From helping them construct a school and laying down concrete roads to announcing to adopt the village, Harsha dedicates his life to the people of that village to become a true ‘srimanthudu’.
