The Kabir Khan directorial 83 was released in theatres on December 24th. The movie received rave reviews from critics and audience, but due to varied reasons, its box office performance is not as expected

Finally, just as things seemed to be returning to normal, the covid 19 cases began to rise again, and with the introduction of the omicron strain, things began to spiral out of control. It was only recently that films began to be released in theatres, and now they may suffer a backlash due to the current situation.

Despite being nearly crushed by the Marvel blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home and Allu Arjun’s Pushpa, actor Ranveer Singh’s 83 has put up a spirited attempt at the box office. The film 83, helmed by Kabir Khan, had a strong start to its second week but fell flat on Monday, January 5. The film grossed Rs 93.28 crore at the box office.

One of the analysts explained why 83 has struggled at the ticket sales despite positive comments, claiming that the frenzy around the film was fueled by the media and reviewers. At the crowd level, it wasn’t particularly hot. Perhaps they mistook it for a docu-sports movie. Those who have viewed and enjoyed it are largely from a demographic that is familiar with the 1983 World Cup, but those who are unfamiliar with the events of 1983 preferred to view it just from the standpoint of the documentary.

The film 83 is about Team India’s stunning triumph at the 1983 Cricket World Cup. In addition to Ranveer Singh, the film also features Jatin Sarna, Jiiva, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Saqib Saleem, Chirag Patil, Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Neena Gupta, and Deepika Padukone.

The film received a lot of positive feedback from both fans and fraternity members. Several cricketers flocked to social media to praise Ranveer Singh and other actors for their performances. On December 24th, Kabir Khan’s film was released in theatres. The film has had a slow start at the box office, but if things don’t go any worse, it might join the 100 crore club.
