Last year’s highest-grossing Punjabi film, the comedy Kala Shah Kala, should be given extra marks for featuring the finest talents of Pollywood. The ensemble cast makes the film Punjabi movie entertaining and comical. We list down the unique and hilarious characters that make up the world of Kala Shah Kala.

Let’s start our list with the blessings of the seniormost member of the cast. Jatinder Kaur plays Beeji, a strict disciplinarian who often gets into loggerheads with her granddaughter, Pammi (Sargun Mehta). No one can take any decisions in the house without her permission. Most of her interesting scenes are with Pammi. And who can forget her reaction while Pammi is leaving for her in-laws’?

Let’s move on to the other bujurg in the Kala Shah Kala family — Nindro Bhuaa (Nirmal Rishi). The film starts with her being hospitalised, but as soon as she wakes up, she proves why she’s the most versatile artist on our list. Nindro is a matchmaker who has a record of fixing over 200 marriages without any failures. But for her, Lovely (Binnu Dhillon) and Pammi’s marriage is the most complicated one. She thoroughly entertains us with her matchmaking tactics.

Next, we have is Pammi’s father Jora Singh (BN Sharma). He is a funny guy who loves to watch the fight between Beeji and Pammi. Sharma is famous for his quirky replies and comebacks. Here in this film, there are several scenes where he proves his acting chops and makes you laugh even while he is in crisis.

A friend is a need, is a friend indeed. This applies to Hari (Karamjit Anmol) who plays the bestie and supporter of Lovely. Whenever Lovely feels sad or lost, Hari is the one who motivates him.

Jeet (played by Harby Sangha) is the one who completes the trio of Lovely and Hari. He runs a salon and he’s in charge of making Lovely ‘fair and lovely.’ When he fails to do so, he motivates Lovely with words of encouragement. The duo of Jeet and Hari can do anything for their friend Lovely.

Taaro (Shehnaz Kaur Gill) is Pammi’s best friend. Even though Pammi’s beeji hates her, that doesn’t change Pammi’s view of her. Before Pammi’s marriage, Taaro helps her elope with Jaggi. Even though she hates Lovely, her feelings for him change after a heartfelt gesture on his part.

Pammi (Sargun Mehta) is the beauty and reason for all the trouble in the film. Pammi is a lively, happy-go-lucky girl who loves to be pampered. She loves her family and likes to have her small fights with Beeji. After getting married to Lovely, Pammi goes through a lot of upheaval, eventually learning the true meaning of love and commitment.

Lastly, we have our hero, the guy who has broken several stereotypes and proved that loves know no colour. Lovely (Binnu Dhillon) is a shy, well-mannered guy who has only one problem in life — his complexion. The way he wins Pammi’s heart and his courage to let go of the one he loves the most makes up the most bittersweet part of the movie.
