So, this Fathers’ Day, gift yourself a day of detox and spend the Sunday lazing on a couch with your dad, watching some amazing films – Kanaa, Kurangu Bommai, Aan Devathai, Hyper and Jersey – that showcase the beautiful bond between a father and his child.

Aan Devathai, starring Samuthirakani and Ramya Pandian, is a story about a dysfunctional nuclear family. It revolves around a couple, who are poles apart and go through a lean patch after the two start living separately. Samuthirakani and Ramya are parents to twin children, but one day, the former leaves the house with his daughter after they have an ugly fight. In this film, you will see the struggles a father goes through to give a better life to his daughter; being a single parent is definitely not a cakewalk.

2. Kanaa

Touted as a sports drama, Aishwarya Rajesh and Sathyaraj’s film Kanaa revolves around a girl who is bound by her love for cricket. She wants to play for her country and make her father proud. Society becomes an obstacle to her dreams, yet she leaves no stone unturned to achieve them. In the film, Aishwarya’s mom is not happy with her daughter playing cricket with boys, while it is her father who supports her all along. The father-daughter duo is the highlight of Kanaa.

3. Kurangu Bommai

The Vidharth and Bharathiraja-starrer Kurangu Bommai is a gripping film, which talks about greedy and needy people who find themselves in trouble as they run after money. Nithilan Swaminathan’s film revolves around a stolen golden idol worth Rs 500 crore, and how it impacts the lives of the people who are trying to get their hands on it. In this film, you will see the love-hate relationship between Kathir (Vidharth) and his father Sundaram (Bharathiraja), which is effectively conveyed with subtle scenes and dialogues.

4. Jersey

Written and directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, Jersey revolves around a boy named Arjun, who is a talented individual yet fails to make it big in Indian cricket. But one day, in his late thirties, he decides to return to cricket to not only fulfil his dream of representing the Indian cricket team but also fulfil his son’s wish of an Indian jersey as a gift. The father-son sequences in the film are endearing.

5. Hyper
