The father of the Indian Constitution and the messiah of Dalits is an inspiration to millions of people. His contribution towards the Indian society is remarkable and his legacy is unparalleled. The new socio-drama is titled as ‘Ek Mahanyak Dr B.R. Ambedkar which is said to start from 17th December 2019 at 8.30 pm.

2. Babasaheb's Original Surname Was Sakpal

Babasaheb’s original surname was Sakpal but his father registered his name as Ambadawekar in school (which was derived from his native village of Ambadawe in Ratnagiri district). Later, his teacher, Krishna Keshav Ambedkar, changed his surname from “Ambadawekar” to his own surname “Ambedkar” in school records.

3. He Was Gifted A Biography Of Buddha When He Passed His Fourth Grade

When he passed his fourth standard examinations in an English school, the people of his community had a public ceremony to celebrate his success. It was at this occasion when a family friend, Dada Keluskar, gifted him a biography of the Buddha.

4. Ambedkar Married Twice

Ambedkar’s first wife, Ramabai, died in 1935 due to prolonged illness. After her death, he went to Bombay and there met Dr Sharada Kabir, a Saraswat Brahmin. They married on 15 April 1948, at his home in New Delhi. She was 39-years-old and he was 57.

5. Ambedkar Had Opposed Article 370

Ambedkar had opposed Article 370 that was recently revoked by the Government. He had refused to draft Article 370 of the constitution because he believed that it was against the principles of keeping the nation integrated and united.

6. Ambedkar Had Studied The Constitutions Of About 60 Countries

Ambedkar was a wise constitutional expert, he had studied the constitutions of about 60 countries before writing the constitution of India.

7. Ambedkar Had Knowledge Of 11 Different Languages

Ambedkar was known to have knowledge of 11 languages, including Marathi (mother tongue), English, Hindi, Pali, Sanskrit, Gujarati, German, Persian, French, Kannada and Bengali.

8. Ambedkar Changed The Working Hours From 14 To 8

As a member of Viceroy’s Labour Council, Ambedkar changed the working hours from 14 to 8. He also introduced some of the employee benefits like dearness allowance, leave benefits, employee insurance, medical leave, equal pay and periodic revisions.

9. His Autobiography Is Used As A Text Book In Columbia University

Ambedkar wrote an autobiographical story ‘Waiting For Visa’, that talked about the experiences he had of untouchability starting from his childhood.
