Grand Master brought a new dance revolution with the Zee TV reality show Dance India Dance in 2009. Hosted by Jay Bhanushali and Saumya Tandon, the series had the tagline “Dance Ka Asli ID, D.I.D” , which resonated with every Indian dance lover. It shot to fame, and completed seven seasons with other spin-offs as well. It was judged by Remo D’Souza, Geeta Kapoor, Terence Lewis among others. Have a look at the winners of each season and their remarkable performances:

1. Salman Yusuff Khan – D.I.D. Season 1

Salman Yusuff Khan auditioned for the first season of Dance India Dance as a contestant. He performed the Latin-American style duet for the audition with his dear friend, and received compliments for their chemistry. He belonged to the team Remo Ke Rangeelay, and went on to win the season with Alisha Singh as the runner-up.

A well-known choreographer, judge and dancer today, Shakti Mohan had performed a unique avatar duet dance with Kunwar Amar. She painted her body blue and adopted the posture of a tetrapod (one who walks on all four limbs) jungle dweller. She belonged to team Terence Ki Toli and won Dance India Dance Season 2. Currently, she runs her own dance academy, Nritya Shakti Studio.

From Geeta Ki Gang, Rajasmita Kar won Dance India Dance Season 3. Hailing from Orissa, she belonged to a poor family. She had performed a duet act with Abhik Banerjee wherein they played the role of an old couple. It was an emotionally touching dance number, and Rajasmita who surprised the judges with her acting skills, was complimented by them.

Dance India Dance Season 4 was won by Shyam Yadav who was also known as “crazy legs”. He belonged to Mudassar Ki Mandali and had performed to a hip-hop number when Sunny Deol was invited as a guest judge on the show. This season marked the change in the panel of judges with Shruti Merchant, Feroz Khan and Mudassar Khan.

Crowned with the Sunehri Taqdeer Ki Topi (hat of golden destiny), Proneeta Swagiary became the winner of Dance India Dance Season 5. She belonged to Punit Ke Panthers, the team of a contestant turned judge, Punit Pathak. In one of the episodes, Proneeta had performed a duet dance with Teriya Magar, the winner of the show’s spin-off, D.I.D. Li’l Masters.

Team Mini Ke Masterblasters’, Sanket Gaonkar from Ankola in Karnataka, bagged the winner’s title of Dance India Dance Season 6 (2017). He delivered an emotionally churning performance on a Bollywood ballad. He went shirtless for the performance and was dressed in only a pair of white pants. This season marked the entry of Marzi Pestonji and Mini Pradhan as the new judges.

India’s favourite dance reality show was back with a bang in Dance India Dance: Battle of the Champions. The Unreal Crew, belonging to North Ke Nawabs, under their zone coach, Bhawna Khanduja, won the seventh season. They were a dance group specialising in Tuttmation style (Tutting and Animation). They were showered with compliments from judges Kareena Kapoor, Bosco Martis and Raftaar.
