Mentalhood is a ZEE5 Original series which talks about the hard struggles of a mother in raising her kids. The emotional series is directed by Karishma Kohli and created by Ekta Kapoor. The series premiered on 11th March, 2020 on ZEE5. Mentalhood features Karisma Kapoor, Sandhya Mridul, Sanjay Suri, Dino Morea, Shruti Seth, Shilpa Shukla, and Tillotama Shome in lead roles. In the series, Meira is a blogger who pens down her experience of motherhood and teaches lessons about being a parent. In the series, Meira is a mother of three kids and has to juggle between being a good wife and an amazing mom. In her topsy-turvy journey of motherhood, she says, “Motherhood is a journey full of life, peace and trust”. In this context, Meira tells every parent to enjoy motherhood at its fullest and trust their kids to be a part of their life.

Actress Sandhya Mridul who plays the role of a perfect mother Anuja Joshi aka AJo loves perfection to its core. Her only goal is to make her kids achieve more in life and be perfectionists like her. She tries her level best to push her kids’ limits and also believes that “perfectly raised kids bahut bada achievement hota hai.” She is in a constant war with Namrata Joshi who is a CEO as well as a mother. AJo feels Namrata is not fulfilling the duties of a mother well as she is chasing her own aspirations and dreams.

Actress Shilpa Shukla who is playing the role of Namrata Joshi, a successful CEO, is a mother of a daughter whom she has adopted. Namrata is a bit materialistic and feels money can buy everything. As she is busy in her professional life, Namrata has retained a nanny for her daughter who can give her timely updates about the child. Namrata feels bad for AJo as she left her career for her kids and has engaged herself too much in motherhood. Namrata tells AJo that, “Ab parents banne ke liye apne aap ko khona nahi padta hai. After a point of time, Meira Sharma feels that she has not fulfilled the duties of a wife and a mother. She feels guilty of failing at the duties of a mother and a wife and blames herself for not trusting her kids. But Meira’s husband is quite supportive and stands by her side. She tells him that every mother has her own motherhood mantra to deal with kids.

Meira finds it difficult to deal with her kids as she needs to be on her toes every day to give them their best. She goes crazy by the end of the day, and one day, falls extremely ill. In the series, Meira readies her son for the wrong subject and he runs from the exam hall as he does not know a single answer. The story of Mentalhood is about five moms and one stay-at-home dad. The parents are shown standing by each other through tough times and supporting them. In the series, when Namrata gets into trouble, Meira, AJo, Diksha, Preity stand by her as they say that “it takes a village to raise a child and we are that village.”

The emotional series Mentalhood deals with sensitive issues with a humorous take. Right from taking about gender roles, to bullying, to domestic violence, the series teaches us several things in this modern age. Meira tells us that being parents, we inject several things (such as gender identity) into our kids’ minds and if they do not behave according to those things, then we fight them for it. Meira tells everyone that it’s the child’s duty to decide their gender and not care about the world. She says, “In the world of pink and blue, can I dare to be yellow?”

AJo, who is a perfectionist and wants her kids to be like her, tries her level best to push her kids’ limits. AJo tells her daughter to study well for the study and the latter screams at her saying she should not push her. To which AJo says that “My job is to push you to get good marks.”

Namrata gets into a verbal spat with AJo who says that Namrata has failed to be a good mother to her daughter Saisha. Namrata tells AJo, “Just because I’m a working woman does not mean I’m not a good mother.”
