EXCLUSIVE: Kundali Bhagya Actor Dheeraj Dhoopar: Karan Luthra Is An Extension Of Me

Dheeraj Dhoopar has bagged seven awards for his portrayal of Karan Luthra on Zee TV show Kundali Bhagya. The daily soap, which has been enjoying a triumphant run, has been on the air for more than two years now. In a short span, Dheeraj has secured a place in the hearts of millions of fans with his outstanding performance and on-screen chemistry with Shraddha Arya. In an exclusive conversation, the handsome heartthrob reveals he is on cloud nine! He further spills the beans on playing Karan Luthra and manifesting the show in his life. Q. 7 awards in 2 years for Kundali Bhagya! It has been a pretty great run we are sure…

I am very happy. I am on cloud nine. When you get so much of love and appreciation for the character you play, it’s my 7th award for Kundali Bhagya in two and a half years, it’s amazing. Attending ITA Awards 2019 in Indore was a great experience because we always receive love on social media, but seeing fans shower it all, aunties coming and telling me ‘we love you’ in person is something different.

Q. Did you ever anticipate Kundali Bhagya would be such a huge hit?

I have always been positive about things in life. I even say this that I have manifested Kundali Bhagya in my life. I always wanted to do an Ekta Kapoor show, I always wanted to play a romantic hero. I didn’t know Kundali Bhagya would be such a huge hit. You know they say when everyone’s kundalis come together, something good happens. Coming together with Ekta, Zee TV with such a great storyline and character, it all fell in place. Cricket and cinema are considered as religions in India. I am doing both – I play a cricketer in a TV show.

Q. Is Karan Luthra an extension of Dheeraj Dhoopar?

Karan and Dheeraj are very similar. Playing him is not really difficult for me. You can rightfully say he is an extension of me. However, Karan Luthra is more patient than Dheeraj Dhoopar I’d say.

Q. Perhaps it is only your character who is referred to as ‘The Karan Luthra.’ No other character has been called that, comment.

The Karan Luthra has become immensely popular in the past two and a half years. The best thing about him is that he is very relatable. Of course, he is a star but people connect with him too. In the script, it was always just Karan Luthra. I started using ‘The Karan Luthra’ just for the sake of it, and currently, it has become a hashtag on Instagram. Everybody then started calling me The Karan Luthra. It wasn’t planned, but people started noticing it. When you put in your 100% I guess it reflects.
