LockUp Meta Review: ZEE5 Original Cop Thriller Is Winning Hearts With Its Gritty Plot And Grey Characters, Say Critics!

ZEE5 original Tamil film, LockUp has finally released with good reviews! Starring Vaibhav Reddy, Venkat Prabhu, Easwari Rao, Poorna and Vani Bhojan in pivotal roles, the gritty cop drama centres around the life of an honest cop Vasanth who is torn between his principles and what is expected of him. While he does battle these inner demons, there are multiple killings in the city for which he is being framed. What makes Vasanth the essential face of these murders and crimes? Why is he being pulled up for these murders? How is he connected to these murders? To get these questions answered, you’ll have to watch the film.

The film has managed to score some phenomenal reviews online. Quite a handful of websites have called the movie a good watch and raved about its plot and performances. In fact, some have also complimented the background score and music that has been explored well in the movie. Well, take words of some of the industry critics!

According to Film Companion, “Told through a series of flashbacks, the film demands our complete attention as we piece together the reality using a series of truths and half-truths that form the events of that night. But unlike other films that use the Rashomon Effect to great effect, in Lockup, there’s always an element of deception that makes it really hard for us to piece together the puzzle.” Further, they have also called the film a rewarding payoff towards the end.

Talking about other nuances of the film, Behindwoods.com stated, “Being a crime thriller, ‘Lockup’ indeed does justice to its genre. There is no much deviation from the plot and it indeed makes you glued to the screen for the entire duration of 1 hour and 46 minutes. The screenplay maintains a steady pace and as the movie gets going, it only gets faster.” They have also lauded the performance, the dialogues and even the music.”

Impressed with the sub-plots, Times of India quoted, “Another positive factor is the lack of unnecessary deviation from the main plot and the way unsolved sub-plots are connected in the latter half.”

Further talking about the little details and their importance to the plot, Book My Show added, “The twists lie not in the characters but in the smaller details that they provide at each juncture. The facts of the two intertwined crimes in question are unravelled in titbits that succeed in holding your attention sufficiently. What we therefore get is pockets of interesting surprises that form an intriguing plotline and credit must go to the screenplay for presenting it in this manner.”
