Popular TV show Karunamoyee Rani Rashmoni stars Ditipriya Roy as Rani Ma, Gourab Chatterjee as Mathurbabu and Sourav Saha as Gadadhar Chattopadhyay in the lead roles. The story is based on the life of Rani Rashmoni, an eminent social reformer of her time and the founder of the Dakshineshwar temple. Her youngest daughter Jagadamba, portrayed by Roshni Bhattacharya, has inherited the best of her mother’s qualities and is a woman of many virtues.

A shoulder of support to her husband
We’ve earlier have seen Rani Maa‘s unconditional love and respect for her husband, Raj Chandra. She stood by him like a rock when everyone ridiculed and looked down upon his progressive ideas. We see a strong resemblance of the same affection and respect, in Jagadamba’s eyes for her husband, Mathuramohan Biswas. Her constant worry for his health and her vocal support to his opinions are enough evidence of her immense love for him.
Progressive in nature
We have always seen Rani Maa lead the family with progressive ideas and modern thoughts. Rani Maa was very different from the other women of her era as she supported movements like abolition of Sati Pratha and widow remarriage. She was also brave enough to stand against the atrocities of the British rules. Following her mother’s footsteps, Jagadamba also raised her voice against patriarchal and orthodox practices. When Mathurbabu and Rani Maa were collecting signatures in support of widow remarriage, unlike her sister Padma, Jagadamba lent her support for the act.
A true devotee
Goddess Kali has been an integral part of Rani Maa’s life. Time and again, Rani Maa has sought the help and blessing of the divine power to protect and guide her during the times of hardship. Jagadamba also draws her spiritual nature from her mother. She is a strong believer in the supreme powers of Maa Kali and is seen visiting the temple quite often. When Mathur was in danger, she prayed to the goddess for his well being and her prayers were answered.

Only truth, and nothing else
Jagadamba is a righteous person who, like her mother and her husband, always stands up for the truth. When Padma tries to undermine Prasanna and tells her that she is not responsible enough to decorate the goddess’ idol, Jagadamba comes to her rescue. She expresses her belief in Prasanna and entrusts her with the responsibility. We are quite sure she has adapted this quality from Rani Maa, who has always raised her voice against injustice and wrongdoings.
We are certain that in more than one way, Jagadamba is like Rani Rashmoni and exhibits the same resilience and sees the world with the same, progressive outlook.
