Jaya Bachchan opens up in an interview about the lack of space for senior actors in Bollywood.

Jaya Bachchan has always been open when it comes to opinions. The actress never held back on her viewpoints and has landed herself on some rough patches, thanks to the same. The 72-year-old actress who is a member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha opened up in an interview and talked about how senior actors have lost their space in Bollywood. She went on to say that the trend can also be seen in other industries too.

In what seems to be one of the many tough interviews Jaya Bachchan has given, she talks about the senior actors and their importance in the industry. The veteran actress talks about how Bollywood has transformed cinema from being an expression of art into a business. According to her, this new model of business runs purely on the lead actor/actress and cares least about the others. She goes on to state that even Hollywood has the same problem, where only a bunch of senior actors find a job, and the rest is left out.

The veteran actress goes on to talk about how movies have moved away from their ‘art’. Jaya Bachchan said that movies with stories based on senior/aged characters are not even being considered, whereas, in the 70’s, and ’80s, the cinemas were filled with such meaningful and relatable stories.  She finishes off by mentioning the names of the Bengali film industry and Mollywood (Kerala) for still giving the deserving importance to senior actors.
