Zee Bangla’s popular serial Rani Rashmoni stars Ditipriya Roy as Rani Rashmoni, Gourab Chatterjee as Mathuramohan Biswas and Sourav Saha as Gadadhar Chattopadhyay in the lead roles. Gadadhar has shown us all that a priest should always be open-minded and believe in the power of the almighty. Gadadhar is an ideal human being who is far away from the clutches of the materialistic world. Haran Thakur, on the other hand, is the exact opposite of Gadadhar. He is not only self-centered but also wicked in nature. Here are times when Haran Thakur behaved in ways that no priest should.
Watch the latest episode of Rani Rashmoni here:
When he conned Atashi and took her gold bangles
Dishonesty is a trait that no priest should possess but Haran Thakur has never been able to free himself from it. When Dinen and Atashi visit Dakshineswar temple to offer prayers to Goddess Kali, they look for the chief priest of the temple. Haran Thakur lies about his identity and pretends to be the chief of priests instead of Gadadhar. When Atashi expresses that she wants to impress her mother-in-law, Haran Thakur tells her its possible if she conducts a big puja in the name of Goddess Kali but that will cost her lot of money. Atashi naively offers her golden bangles in order to compensate for the expenses of the puja and Haran Thakur accepts them, although he does not perform any puja.
When he insulted a man of lower caste
Caste and race should not a basis of differentiation when it comes to offering prayers in a temple. God is for everyone to worship, so a priest should treat everyone as equal. But Haran Thakur judges a person on the basis of their caste. In a recent episode, we see that a man of lower caste was cleaning the premises of the temple and Haran Thakur insults him and tells him to leave the temple. Previously, he has voiced his concerns about Rani Rashmoni‘s lower caste also.
When he tried to extort money from a poor lady
Priests hold a high moral position in the society and they should be honest and kind. Haran Thakur is the exact opposite as he has a very self-centered attitude and often takes advantage of other people’s miseries. In one such incident, a poor woman whose husband was ill wanted to offer puja to Goddess Kali. Haran Thakur seizes the opportunity and tells her that she has to pay Rs 1,000 in order to perform the puja. He also tries to instill the fear of sin in her but his plans are interrupted when Gadadhar confronts him.
When he hit Gadadhar in a fit of rage
Violent nature does not suit a priest but Haran Thakur has shown his violent side when he hit Gadadhar in the fit of rage. Gadadhar tells Haran Thakur to ask for forgiveness from the Goddess but he gets enraged thinking that all of this is an act of modesty on the part of Gadadhar. Engulfed with rage, Haran Thakur kicks Gadadhar which leads to him getting hurt. We have never seen a priest behave in such unruly manner.
When he tried to restrict Gadadhar from performing puja
Haran Thakur has always been jealous of Gadadhar since he was appointed the chief priest of Dakshineswar. He has always tried to demean Gadadhar‘s ideas and his devotion for Goddess Kali. So when he came to pray to the Goddess without bathing, Haran Thakur insulted Gadadhar and asked him to leave the premises. He has also expressed his dislike for Gadadhar because he is close to Rani Rashmoni and his family. Many of Haran Thakur’s acts are a result of his jealousy. We hope he mends his ways and behaves like a true priest.
