India has been witnessing the second wave of COVID-19 since the last few months and the number of cases have been at an all-time high, causing major concern amongst the people. Amidst the situation, the Kumbh Mela at Banaras in Uttar Pradesh is being heavily criticized as no COVID protocols are being followed by the devotees attending the auspicious festival. On the occasion of Baisakhi on April 14, 2021, In a recent viral video doing the rounds on social media, singer Kailash Kher can also be seen participating in the Kumbh Mela without following COVID precautions. The absence of facemasks and cluttered open spaces at the venue have been leaving the country worried as it could lead to the emergence of a COVID hotspot.

In the video attached above, Indian singer Kailash Kher can be seen participating in the Kumbh Mela without wearing a face mask. He can also be seen performing a devotional song for the people while the attendees gather to watch him live. His presence at the festival invited immense flak as people believe it was irresponsible of the singer to be oblivious of the grave situation. Most people have been of the stance that celebs must be more thoughtful as such appearance could set the wrong example.

The COVID-19 cases in India have been on the rise lately with a slow vaccination drive and a variety of mutant versions of the virus. The country has been dealing with a health crisis and the situation at the Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh has been fuelling the concern amongst the people. On the occasion of the annual festival at the Ganga river, a huge crowd gathered, violating various COVID-19 norms which are highly significant in order to curb the current situation.

In the viral videos and pictures doing the rounds of social media, a huge number of devotees can be seen occupying the shores of the river Ganga while maintaining zero social distance despite the ongoing situation. Various people were also seen taking a dip in the Ganga, which is a risky gesture as the virus easily spreads through water droplets. Haridwar has been experiencing a constant spike in positive cases but the rising numbers have not invited a strong order from the centre or the state government. The city reported 594 fresh COVID-19 positive cases on April 13, 2021, and the numbers continue to rise on a regular basis.
