The Princess of Wales, born Lady Diana Spencer, is a worldwide icon who is recognized as an immensely compassionate human. Portraying this saintly figure came as a challenge to Stewart who mentioned how she hasn’t been this excited for a part in very long. Apart from working on the ‘intimidating’ accent, the actress made sure to do her research by reading several biographies in order to do justice to the role of Princess Diana, mother to Prince William and Prince Harry.
I LOVED Spencer. It’s a perfect companion piece to Jackie. Kristen Stewart is transformative and moving as Princess Diana, a Best Actress frontrunner. Claire Mathon’s cinematography and Jonny Greenwood’s score are Oscar-worthy. Ending is incredibly poignant. I’m in awe! #TIFF21 pic.twitter.com/Dd3J7vH8D3

Several positive comments have been pouring in since the premiere of the movie. Where on one hand Stewart’s performance has been called “her most dazzling and intricate” so far, Screen Daily said the film offers “an empathetic, intelligent insight into the prison of fame and privilege”.
With all the anticipation and expectations from the audience being around, the actress stated her overwhelmed gratitude for enacting the life of a global icon. When asked how the film will depict Diana’s trauma, she stated that Spencer is a journey into an emotional portrayal of Diana at a critical juncture in her life. It’s a tangible declaration of the sum of her elements, beginning with her given name, Spencer, expressed Stewart.
Directed by Pablo Larraín, Spencer also stars Sean Harris, Sally Hawkins, and Timothy Spall.
