Based on a short story by Amna Mufti named Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi (The Owl Is Not For Sale), this series revolves around the families of two estranged landowning brothers Mian Yakoob (older) and Miaanji (younger). The star cast includes Noman Ijaz as Mian Ghulam Farid, Noman Masood as Wali Muhammad and Yumna Zaidi as Aasiya in lead roles. Omair Rana plays the supporting character of Sir Chauhan. It also features Saba Qamar as Gul-E-Rana, who has also acted opposite Irrfan Khan in the Bollywood film Hindi Medium (2017).
Set in a village, Yakoob and Miaanji get their respective daughters married to each other’s sons in a Vatta Satta (exchange marriage). The story takes a dark turn and a lasting family feud begins when Yakoob kills Miaanji’s son years ago. In revenge for his child, Miaanji’s murders Yakoob’s daughter. Now, Miaanji’s daughter has to survive in the household of the murdered daughter. Meanwhile, Yakoob’s youngest daughter, Aasiya falls in love with her professor, Sir Chauhan. This riles up Yakoob and his family as Chauhan is not of their religion.
The dialogue, “Sher ke bachche sawaal nahi karte, faisla karte hain!”, meaning “Lion’s children don’t ask questions, they make decisions!”, aptly describes the character of the two brothers. Their respective sons ill-treat their wives and torture them due to their father’s rivalry. Innocent lives bearing the brunt of hatred and enmity that they haven’t caused is not a pleasant sight. Churning up different emotions inside you, the series washes the colour of revenge, conspiracy, anger and grief with only one thing, blood!
