Veteran actor Chandrakant Pandya who played the role of Nishad Raj in the mythological show, Ramayan passed away at the age of 72, this Thursday. Chandrakant played the role of Lord Ram’s childhood friend. Soon after the shocking news broke out, condolences poured in from his co-actor Sunil Lahri who played the character of Lakshman on the show. His co-star, Dipika Chikhila who played the role of Sita paid her respect and posted on her social media account about the sad news. As per media reports, the actor was suffering from many health ailments and passed away due to that.
Chandrakant Pandya also contributed to some great projects like Hote Hote Pyaar Ho Gaya, Abu Kaliya, Dhadakebaaz, Khol De Meri Zuban, Pyar Ho Gaya and Narsi Bhagat. Earlier withinside the month, Arvind Trivedi who performed Raavan in Ramayan also passed away as he suffered a heart attack. Ramayan actor Sunil Lahiri shared the information of his demise on Instagram at the time. In an interview, Arvind’s nephew Kaustubh Trivedi said his uncle was unwell for the past few years. Things only worsened over the past three years. He had to be admitted to the hospital a few times.
The show air on Doordarshan and had a set of dedicated fans who watched and loved the show. The show was telecasted again during the time of the pandemic, people watched it with the same enthusiasm. The re-telecast registered the highest-ever rating for a Hindi General Entertainment Channel (GEC) programme since 2015.

While Dipika played Sita, Arun Govil played Ram, Sunil Lahri was seen as Laxman and Dara Singh was Hanuman in the show. It was created and directed by Ramanand Sagar.
