Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, popularly known as the Shahenshah of Bollywood and Big B, celebrates his 77th birthday on 11 October 2019. Born as Inquilaab Srivastava, he dons several hats successfully including that of a film actor, film producer, television host, occasional playback singer, and former politician. In short, Bachchan is a “one-man industry,” in the words of French director François Truffaut. Referred to as Sadi ka Mahanayak, Star of the Millennium amongst other names, Big B has featured in over 190 films in a career spanning across five decades. 2. Deewar

It was films like Deewar, Zanjeer, Sholay and several alike that dubbed Bachchan as the ‘Angry Young Man.’

Deewar orbits around two brothers Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Ravi (Shashi Kapoor) and their mother (Nirupa Roy). Vijay joins the underworld, the younger brother Ravi becomes a police officer. 3. Mard

Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Amrita Singh, Mard was one of the highest-grossing movies of 1985. Set in the pre-independence era, the plot revolves around Raju, the son of a Raja Azad Singh, who is separated from his family at a young age. The storyline exploits the tried and tested superhit Bollywood formula of lost and found.

4. Naseeb

Naseeb features an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha and Hema Malini. The 1981 film received rave reviews and was a box-office blockbuster. Again, this film too puts the lost and found formula to use. After winning a lottery, Namdev’s cunning friends frame him for murder. Namdev’s family gets separated and his sons grow up to avenge their family’s sufferings.

5. Aakhree Raasta

Aakhree Raasta starred Big B alongside two supremely talented South-Indian beauties, Sridevi and Jaya Prada. The action film was a remake of the Tamil movie Oru Kaidhiyin Dairy. The 1986 feature film traces the story of David D’Costa (Amitabh Bachchan) who is falsely accused of his wife Mary’s (Jaya Prada) murder and imprisoned. Twenty-four years later, when he is released, he seeks revenge on the three men who were responsible for his sufferings, only to be stopped by Inspector Vijay, who is none other than David’s son.

6. Trishul

Trishul stars an ensemble cast – Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Raakhee, Hema Malini and Sajeev Kumar. The plotline revolves around Vijay (Bachchan) who lives with his poor mother and they were disowned by his father. After his mother’s death Vijay is determined to get richer than his biological father and destroy his business to seek revenge for his mother’s sufferings.

7. Ajooba

Ajooba is a 1991 Hindi fantasy adventure film stars Amitabh Bachchan in the titular roles alongside Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Sonam, and Amrish Puri. Directed by Shashi Kapoor, the movie is set in Baharistan. The Sultan’s wife is expecting a child, but the evil Wazir tries to kill the royal family and seize the throne. The family escapes the attack but are separated and the young prince grows up with superpowers and is called Ajooba. Can Ajooba seek his revenge and save the people from the Wazir’s atrocities?

8. Roti Kapada Aur Makaan

The iconic patriotic number ‘Mere Desh Ki Dharti Sona Ugale…’ is from Roti Kapada Aur Makaan. Starring Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, and Amitabh Bachchan, the film was a huge hit. It narrates the struggles of a poor family and highlights the three basic necessities that everybody needs, that is food, clothing, and shelter. Bharat, the eldest son, has the responsibility of the entire family, but he struggles to earn money the right way and finally resorts to crime.

9. Ram Balram

Ram Balram is a 1980 Hindi drama film starring Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, Rekha. Jagatpal kills Ram and Balram’s parents and adopts the brothers with an evil intention. When Ram and Balram grow up, he tries to push Ram into the world of smuggling. However, the brothers find out about Jagatpal’s intentions and join hands to destroy him.

10. Raaste ka Patthar

Raaste Kaa Patthar is a 1972 Hindi drama film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Laxmi Chhaya, Prem Chopra. Jai tries to be in his boss’s good books and allows him to use his flat at night for all illicit purposes. Jai falls for Nita but soon realizes that she is about to get sucked into his boss’s trap.
