Amol Kolhe Discusses Experiences From Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji, Bond With Prajakta Gaikwad

Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji is one of the most popular shows on Zee Marathi. The historical serial went off air this year with a memorable climactic scene that stayed with the fans forever and is now being retelecasted on the channel to keep fans entertained during the lockdown. It revolves around the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji and his quest to achieve Swarajya. Amol Kolhe‘s stellar act as Sambhaji is one of the many reasons for the show’s immense popularity. On account of Chattrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Jayanti yesterday, the actor had an exclusive chat with his fans on Zee Marathi’s official Facebook page. He shared interesting incidents from the show, his experience onqq working with other stars, and his future projects in the live session.

1. How has your experience been working in Swarajyarakshak? 

Firstly, I am thankful that Zee Marathi gave me an opportunity to produce the show. It was only because of them that I could fulfill my lifelong dream of making a show on the brave king Sambhaji. Credit goes to each and every member of the team for the massive success. Prateeksha Lonkar, Prajakta Gaikwad, Shantanu Moghe, Snehlata Vasaikar, Priya Marathe, Mahesh Kokate, and many others who were a part of this journey. I am also grateful that I was given a chance to play such an important historical character. It was my humble effort to make people relive the lively history of Sambhaji Maharaj and his dream to establish Swarajya.

2. What has your biggest lesson been playing both Shivaji and Sambhaji? 

Both Shivaji and Sambhaji have been really close to my heart. Both roles have affected me deeply. There’s so much to take from these men who are no less than role models. I learned how to think minutely, make strategies, and take calculative risks through the role of Shivaji Mahraj whereas Sambhaji Maharaj taught me how to tackle any given situation in life. Apart from these life lessons, there are many other offerings of Shivaji and Sambhaji Maharaj.

3. How was it working with your co-actor Prajakta Gaikwad?

It was great to work with Prajakta who played the role of Yesubai to perfection. I remember Prajakta was in the seventh grade when I first spotted her. We were doing a play in Pune in which she was playing a young Yesubai. I was delighted to see her back in the role of Yesubai years after this incident. Honestly, I was a little worried and under pressure while performing with her. But Prajakta made me feel at home. She also took incredible efforts to give a topnotch performance as Yesubai. It is quite commendable.

4. Any memorable incident that you would like to share about the show?

There were many. One particular incident that I remember is seeing a child from Islampur Taluka crying over Sambhaji getting arrested. It was heartbreaking to see that. So we decided to call both the child and his mother on the sets to felicitate them. We wanted to make an honest attempt at portraying the life of Sambhaji Maharaj and the history of the Maratha empire. After looking at this incident, I think we were successful in doing so.

5. What are your future plans?

Three full-length feature films based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj are currently in the pipeline. We will be beginning the shoot once the lockdown ends. I am also planning to make a big-budget film on these historical figures. Along with this I also plan to release a book based on the journey of the show Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji. We will be soon beginning the process.

Before signing off from the live session, the actor revealed that he would be hosting an unplugged live session where he would discussing interesting things about the show and asked fans to stay tuned for it.
