Rebellion Against The Family
Whenever we want to pursue anything in life, the family is considered the biggest support one has. How do we even follow our dreams when our family is completely against them? That’s one question Anjum had to deal with while pursuing her love for modelling and acting. When Anjum told her mother about her modelling plans, the latter clearly turned down her request saying that she won’t let it happen in her house.
While talking about her family, Anjum said that she belonged to a middle-class family and, “Middle-class people aren’t supposed to dream big, that’s how we have been conditioned.” Although the actress says that now her family is very progressive and supportive of her dream, back in 2009-’10, as they belonged to a conservative Muslim family, they had their own inhibitions about their daughter dreaming so big.

Without any financial or emotional backup from her family, the actress followed her dreams when she #ChooseToChallenge. Talking about this Anjum said, “All you need to do is #ChooseToChallenge and when you do that make a to-do list of things you want to do like I want to give auditions, groom myself, I will make a portfolio.” The Kundali Bhagya further elaborated on how she had to leave her home to pursue her dreams as her family members weren’t in favour of them.

Auditioning Days
The struggle is a barrier that’s a part of every actor’s life. As Anjum talked about her journey being very difficult she said, “I remember I was staying in a studio apartment with six girls, eating maggie for lunch and dinner.” While recalling her auditioning days, Anjum said, “I didn’t even have 10 Rs for a bus ticket and used to walk from Banrda to Andheri to give auditions.” She also mentioned that she gave back to back auditions every day without having lunch or even a cup of coffee.
#BreakingTheBarriers and #ChooseToChallenge
While talking about her journey so far, Anjum said “The journey was exhausting, but I didn’t stop myself. I have broken the barrier by being a rebel. Rebel is not a bad thing. If you choose what you want to be and are honest with yourself, the universe conspires to make that happen,” she added.
On this year’s theme for International Women’s Day, Anjum said she’d like to challenge all the beautiful ladies to #ChooseToChallenge yourself and be more focused. She concluded by giving out a message to all the women, “Just believe in yourself, stay focused, have faith and do whatever you want to do. Just be happy!”
Despite belonging to a middle-class, orthodox family, she did not give up on her dreams and neither should you. This Women’s Day #ChooseToChallenge yourself by #BreakingTheBarriers around you and fly high.
