If there is one thing that has been good during the lockdown, it has to be the realisation that there’s an artist within everyone. People are painting after ages or cooking for the first time. Some are honing their skills and some are going back to the classroom. While there are endless things to do, a little sweet treat never hurt anyone. In fact, desserts can make even the quarantine a happy phase, like Nidhhi Agerwal.

This orange and chocolate cake recipe by Chef Shivesh requires no dairy or eggs, which makes it a great treat even for the vegan folks out there. Nidhhi clearly had fun in her first-ever baking experience. Let’s see if it works out for you, too.
To get started with the cake, take a large bowl and add some vegetable oil in it. You can use jaggery, white or brown sugar for this recipe. Whisk the two ingredients well and then, add a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice along with hot water.
Whisk it all and move to the dry ingredients. Start by sifting all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, the zest of a whole orange. Use your preferred method to combine the wet and the dry ingredients well.
Take a pan and prepare it with parchment paper and butter before pouring in the batter. You can also bake this cake on a stove using a pressure cooker. While the cake bakes, get started with the chocolatey part.
You will need some dark chocolate along with any cream of your choice. Add the two ingredients in a bowl and microwave it until it combines into a smooth paste. You can also use the double-boiler method to do it.
Once the cake has cooled off completed, take it out on a plate and decorate it with the chocolate ganache. Oh, more importantly, do not forget to take cute pictures as Nidhhi did.
