Ok Bangaram was made originally in Tamil. The two versatile actors are well-known for their craft across the nation. The Tamil film is titled Ok Kadhal Kanmani. In 2015, India was only beginning to explore the relationships beyond marriages. At such a crucial point in time, the director cashed in on the idea of a live-in relationship, between two youngsters who have no plans on marrying.
As unexpected as the plot sounded, the film went on to make big money and also garnered immense appreciation from the masses. A. R. Rahman’s incredible music for the film still brings a smile across our face every time we tune in. This film alone garnered 47 nominations across various award shows. A Hindi adaption of the film, titled Ok Jaanu, was announced following the original’s success. It featured Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles.
Mani Ratnam has been quite an oddball, since time. He considered films to be a waste of time, despite hailing from a film family. In fact, he went ahead and pursued managemental studies. After doing the corporate job, he realised his love for cinema and stepped on the sets of a Kannada film. Some flops and misses later, he found his ground with the 1994 film Mouna Ragam. His iconic journey which started years ago is still going strong.
Six National Film Awards, a Padma Shri Award, and countless international film awards later, we wish nothing but more incredible stories and success for the filmmaker.
