‘Unconventional’ is Kalki Koechlin‘s middle name! Anyone who has grown up with a healthy dose of mainstream Bollywood films will vouch for notions like ek ladka aur ek ladki kabhi dost nahi ho sakte, sharam aur laaj ek aurat ka gehna hote hai, so on and so forth. We have been conditioned to think of a silver screen heroine in a certain way – imagine her in a chiffon-clad saree dancing against snow-clad mountains or making a hero feel good about his macho-man image. There are stars known for their last name, larger-than-life persona and then there are those who enjoy a moment or two with the media for doing what they are paid for – acting! Kalki, falls in the latter category, and proudly so if we may add.
In a refreshing departure from the societal norms, Kalki has balanced her professional life impeccably. Be it Margarita With A Straw, Ribbon, Dev D or Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Happy Ending, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, her performance in each of these films has been phenomenal. If anything, Kalki always leaves you wanting for more. As she turns 36 on 10 January 2020, we only wish she gets more of such amazing flicks in the years to come!
