Recently, the nation came together to celebrate people who risk their lives to keep us, the heroes keeping the world healthy – the doctors. July 1 was celebrated as the National Doctor’s Day. This day is celebrated in the honour of late Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, who also went on to become the Chief Minister of West Bengal in 1962. This year, as the world transitions out of a global pandemic, everyone is trying to do their bit including our celebrities.

Tollywood’s beloved Genelia Deshmukh also did her bit. Genelia (formerly D’Souza), along with her husband Riteish Deshmukh, signed up to donate their organs post their death. They committed to this act of service on the occasion of Doctor’s Day. The two actors have a wide fan following. They are also a real-life celebrity couple who find innovative ways to interact with their audiences and fans. Using their reach, they tried to encourage their fans to do the same.
Genelia wrote on her social media, “Riteish and I have been thinking about it for a long time but unfortunately didn’t get down to doing it. Today on Doctor’s Day, we pledge to donate our organs. We want to thank Dr Nozer Sherier and FOGSI for inspiring us. The greatest gift you can give someone is ‘The gift of life’. We urge you all to take a part in this initiate and pledge to save lives, pledge to donate your organs.”
While this is a good deed, many other celebrities also sought the couple’s help in donating their organs, or at least learn more about it. You, too, can help save one or many lives by pledging to donate your organs.
