In theatres, there is Bunty Aur Babli 2, the first major release from Yash Raj Films (YRF) in two years (October 2019). Despite the temptations, Aditya Chopra chose not to release the film on a digital-only platform. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, YRF’s much-delayed film, performed poorly in theatres earlier this year but has since become a cult classic following its digital release. However, with Bunty Aur Babli 2, YRF is hoping to make a lot of money at the box office. The first challenge for Bunty Aur Babli 2 would be to at least match Sooryavanshi’s second Friday numbers (Rs 6.83 crore) on its first day. A double-digit opening would have been fantastic. But that would be too much to expect from a film that is expected to rely primarily on word of mouth. However, if it can earn at least Rs 6.83 crore on its first day, it will be a success because it will be the best first-day collection for Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji in a long time.

The film’s newly released trailer depicted the original con-couple Bunty-Babli, played by Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji, competing against the new con-couple, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Bollywood debutant Sharvari. Speaking about his character’s arc in Bunty Aur Babli 2, Pankaj explained that he played Jatayu Singh, a cop who, through his guile, manages to pit the two Bunty and Babli’s in an epic battle for supremacy. While the two compete to see who is the biggest con artist, he has his sights set on becoming the most acclaimed cop. He is the one who brings the original Bunty Babli out of hiding to pursue the new Bunty Babli. What follows is a riot of laughter and craziness. Varun V Sharma directed the film after serving as an assistant director on hit films such as Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai. Bunty Aur Babli 2 by Yash Raj Films will be released in theatres on November 19. Meanwhile, Pankaj, whose upcoming projects include Oh My God 2, Bachchan Pandey, and the third season of ‘Criminal Justice,’ recently received the Diversity in Cinema Award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
