They say that Mumbai is the dream city, and working in Bollywood is truly a dream come true. Many people flock to this city to make a name for themself in the entertainment industry, but only a few succeed. One such personality is that of actor Sushil Pandey. Bollywood actor, Sushil Pandey is popularly known for his roles in films such as Article 15, Jolly LLB, Super 30, and more. Today let’s take a look at his inspiring journey.
From Bihar to Bombay
Sushil who is born in Bihar said he always had an inclination towards films. He did not necessarily know that he wanted to become an actor but was always attracted to the glitz and glam of the industry. The actor recalls reading the magazine Mayapuri and being mesmerized by the pictures of Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Mithun Chakraborty and the likes.
By the time Sushil decided that he wants to be an actor, he was worried about his dark complexion and felt that only fair people can become heroes. Thus, on being told by someone that people who stay in air-conditioning tend to be fairer, Sushil decided to pursue Hotel Management. After finishing his course Sushil moved to Goa where he worked while also pursuing his passion in the Goa Kala Academy. He then went to Delhi to learn more about theatre and stayed there for a few years.

Finding work in the big city
On July 7, 2007, Sushil finally stepped into his dream city Mumbai. The actor had an iconic start to his journey as the day he arrived in Mumbai, Sushil slept in the waiting room of the CSMT railway station. He then stayed at a hostel in Goregaon that cost him Rs. 50, while looking for work in the industry.
The actor recalled not getting work for almost a month and a half, despite going to places like Prithvi theatre every single day. There, he met writer Neeraj Pathak who took him in and cast him in a play. Meanwhile, Sushil worked odd jobs for survival. Later, he got cast in a Balaji Telefilms show for a small role, which again led him to get a role on a Zee TV show called, Jab Love Hua.

Bollywood debut and other projects
After working for a while in the Television industry, Sushil moved on to films. He says that he always wanted to work in films and that’s when Jab We Met happened. Then Subhash Kapoor cast him for a role in Phas Gaye Re Obama which Sushil says is when people started recognizing him a little. Later he went on to work in films such as Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Super 30, Article 15, and more.
OTT debut with Maharani and upcoming projects
Maharani, Sushil’s OTT debut, saw him in the role of Kunwar Singh, which the actor says was unexpected for him as well. This was Sushil Pandey’s fourth collaboration with Subhash Kapoor. He recalls how difficult it was for him to get hold of Kunwar’s role and how complex the character is. Talking about OTT, the actor called it a boon to the industry. Talking about his upcoming projects, Sushil said that he has finished shooting for Anubhav Sinha’s ‘Anek’ starring Ayushmann Khurrana. He also said that he will be working on Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Mozez Singh’s upcoming web series, ‘Human’, which will air on Disney+Hotstar.
