Chloé Zhao: Harry Styles was cast in the role of Eros, he is “that Character”
HollywoodOscar-winning filmmaker, Chloé Zhao, said if Harry had denied the job of Eros, she would have cut the character. It was very much a bundle deal for me to play Harry as Eros
Heartthrob Harry Styles’ performance in the recently released The Eternals left audience speechless. Marvel’s fans adore him. However, the director of the MCU film, Chloé Zhao, didn’t utter a word but now she finally speaks out about how she found the British singer who will play Eros in the film. If Harry had denied the job, the Oscar-winning filmmaker told Deadline that she would have cut the character.
‘It was very much a bundle deal for me to play Harry as Eros. ‘I presented Pip the Troll [voiced by Patton Oswalt] and Eros to Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] a while back, and I love the idea of looking into an Eternal who is beyond Titan and who may have influenced Thanos over the years in the same way Eternals influenced us, earthlings,’ The Eternals’ Director said.
The former 1D member’s brief but endearing presence in the film as the royal prince of Thanos, brother of Titan aka Eros, was all fans had hoped for and anticipated. His character in the movie introduced himself and his friend Pip to Thena aka Angelina Jolie and inform her that her friends are in trouble and they are there to help her.

Zhao also confirmed to Deadline that she had Watermelon Sugar singer in mind for the role from the beginning. ‘ It wasn’t like I suggested Eros and said, let’s go get performers. I’d been following Mr. Style since Dunkirk and thought he was fascinating. I recognized ‘he was that role’ after meeting him, just as I had cast the rest of my cast. He has a lot of Eros in him. It’s a go for me if he and Kevin say yes. And I’m delighted they both did,’ she expressed her gratitude. Apart from Marvel’s Eternals, Harry Styles also appeared in the movies – Don’t Worry Darling, 2021; Miss Americana, 2020; Dunkirk, 2017, and many more.
