Awara Paagal Deewana released in the year 2002 in June with an amazing cast that included Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Aftab Shivdasani, Suniel Shetty and many more. This film introduced us to many interesting characters like Guru Gulab Khatri, Yeda Anna and Chhota Chhatri which have remained with us 18 years later.
Here’s a classic scene from the film with Paresh Rawal and Johnny Lever.
Here are some of the iconic characters from the film the like of which we just don’t see anymore.
Chhota Chhatri – Johnny Lever aced his role as Chhota Chhatri in this film. He is the least powerful don but the loudest and aggressive. Johnny Lever’s talent is what made this loud, stammering and angry character funny to watch all the time.
Manilal-Anmol – Paresh Rawal as Manilal is again one of the funniest characters in the film. He keeps getting everyone’s names including the dangerous don and his own wife. His son-in-law Anmol (Aftab Shivdasani) is a simple normal dentist which makes the character of Manilal seem even funnier and crazier.
Guru Gulab Khatri – Akshay Kumar played the role of one of the coolest dons in Hindi films. He is an Indian don living abroad but he is always in control and remains cool even in the most life-threatening situations. His rose tattoo on the neck and fascination with knives only add the cool and dangerous aura of this character.
Mona – Paramjeet – Mona (Amrita Arora) and Paramjeet (Supriya Pilgaonkar) both play wives who rule their husbands with an iron whip. It is rare to see women in control of the house even if this was pushed to a complete extreme. They both are funny while being hungry for money and making their husbands do all the hard work for them.
Tina – How often have you seen a character who is madly in love with and stalks an international don. Tina (Aarti Chabria) is madly in love with Guru Gulab Khatri and follows him on all his dangerous shootouts and does her best to impress him.
