My Universe, the single by Coldplay collaborating with K-Pop band BTS topped Billboard Hot 100. The song is the second Top 1 for Coldplay and the sixth for BTS.

The song ‘My Universe’, the collaboration of Coldplay and BTS topped Billboard Hot 100. My Universe was released on Sept. 24 on Parlophon/Atlantic records. The official video of the song was released on Sept. 30 and topped the chart like a blitzkrieg in ten days.

This is the second Top 1 song for Coldplay since 2008 while the K-Pop band BTS has topped the chart six times since September 2020. The song attracted 11.5 million streams in the U.S and another 5.5 million radio airplay audience impressions. According to MRC (Music Sales) data ending Sept. 30, the song was sold 127,000 times when downloads and physical singles are combined.

Coldplay tops the chart for the second time since 2008. Coldplay’s Viva La Vida was numero uno in June 2008. After almost 13 years, Coldplay’s song reaches the top 1. My Universe is also the fifth song of Coldplay to get a place in the Top 10. Their collaboration with The Chainsmokers for the song ‘Something Just Like This’ was on Top 3 in April 2017. Coldplay first reached Top 10 with their song ‘Speed of Sound’ at Top 8. The song was released in May 2005.

For BTS or Bangton Boys, this is the sixth time they are topping the chart. Earlier, BTS’ Dynamite was on Top 1 for three weeks in September 2020. Their Savage Love with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo was Top 1 on Oct. 17, 2020. Butter, one of their most viewed song spent nine weeks on Billboard’s Top 1. Their single Permission to Dance was on Top 1 on July 24, 2021.

BTS first entered Top 10 with its song Fake Love on No 10 in June 2018. For BTS, this is the fastest number 6. They managed to top the chart six times in one year and over a month. Only The Beatles managed this feat in one year and two weeks during 1964 – 66.
My Universe is also the highest-charting Hot 100 hit among the songs with the word ‘universe’ in its title. My Universe is also the first Hot 100 No 1 song by two groups collaborating. ‘I’m Gonna Make You Love Me’ by Diana Ross and The Supremes and The Temptations achieved No 2 in 1969.
