EXCLUSIVE! Badnaam Gali Actor Divyenndu Sharma: We Should Encourage Surrogacy

Aayushi Sharma . May 13, 2019 .

Speaking about surrogacy in India, Badnaam Gali actor Divyenndu Sharma told us, “It’s a beautiful thing… We should not take it as a taboo.”

Last year, India banned commercial surrogacy in order to safeguard the nation’s reputation as a ‘rent a womb’ harbour for childless couples. Earlier, Bollywood saw the likes of Shah Rukh Khan Sunny Leone and Aamir Khan amongst others adopt the route to embrace parenthood. Badnaam Gali, an upcoming ZEE5 original film starring Patralekhaa and Divyenndu Sharma, deals with the concept of surrogacy. It is the story of a ‘Badnaam Lane (infamous lane),’ named so because a single surrogate mother stays there, who is labelled as a slut and highly gossiped about by residents.

In an exclusive conversation with us, Divyenndu spoke about the stigma attached to surrogacy. “It’s a beautiful thing. It’s a great thing! I am sure it’s a big emotion for people who can’t have kids, to have a baby in their lives through this medical process. I think this is something we should really respect in our society and should not take it as a taboo. Our society still has a lot of questions about surrogacy as to what is it, how does it happen? This is where nature and science come together to make something that can make a difference in some people’ lives for better. It’s a beautiful thing,” he elaborated.

The Batti Gul Meter Chalu actor further added, “I am sure in the coming years more and more people will find happiness through this process. We should definitely encourage it. We are creating life, it’s a beautiful process.”

Earlier, actress Patralekhaa too had spoken to us in favour of surrogacy. “Suddenly in the past two years, I saw so many women having kids. And I didn’t realise because I didn’t see them get pregnant literally. I was shocked that how? But then that’s when I got to know about surrogacy and that it is so rampant in our country. But then there was a ban. I have heard so many stories floating around. Surrogacy is a beautiful process. If people are ready to give their womb for somebody else’s happiness, then why not ya?,” said the Nanu ki Jaanu star.
