43-year-old television actress Shilpa Shinde has always been in the spotlight for her popular roles in various TV shows such as soap opera Bhabi and sitcom Bhabi Ji Ghar par hai. She played the role of Angoori bhabhi in BGPH where she was seen as a feeble and simple housewife. Her acting as a gullible and naive woman not only gave us fits of laughter but she also received a lot of appreciation for her performance. Due to her role in BGPH, she became a household name and further rose to prominence. Even after these many years, we still cannot get over Angoori bhabhi and her innocent antics.

But, long gone are the days when Shilpa was known only for her “bhabhi” roles. She has proven herself to be a very versatile artist with her role as Queen Meerawati in Paurushpur. Here, Shinde plays the role of king Bhadrapratap’s wife who is a firm believer of patriarchy. She defies the norms of a patriarchal society and where men oppress women and will be seen scheming in order to gain power. She can loosely be compared with Game of Thrones’ Queen Cersei, who is a mastermind and can easily manipulate the men around her. Shilpa will represent a really strong and independent woman who does not easily let anyone walk all over her.

Shilpa has gone from playing the role of a simple and naive girl in a sitcom to playing the role of a scheming and strong queen in a period drama and it is safe to say that just like her role in Bhabi Ji Ghar par hai, she will ace her role in Paurushpur too. While both the roles are completely opposite, she has got what it takes to do more serious roles and she is sure to nail it! Paurushpur is all set to release in December exclusively on Zee5.
