Several Asian actors and filmmakers lost their lives in 2020. Here’s a list of some of the most precious stars we lost.

2020 hasn’t been a very good year for the Asian film industry. Apart from the Coronavirus pandemic affecting the entire world, Asia lost some of the greater actors and filmmakers this year. From Irrfan Khan to Benny Chan, here is a list of some of the brightest stars Asia lost in 2020.

Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan was one of the finest actors of Indian cinema. His career spanned over 30 years and he received several awards for his work. From a small role in Salaam Bombay! to playing the lead roles in films like Life of Pi, Paan Singh Tomar, The Namesake and many more other films, Irrfan was widely loved by the audience and critics alike. The actor passed away while he was being treated for colon infection on 29 April 2020.

Sushant Singh Rajput

Sushant Singh Rajput was one of the rising stars of Indian cinema. He was best known for his films like  M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kedarnath and Chhichhore. He started his career with a television show called Pavitra Rishta and made his debut in Bollywood with Kai Po Che. The actor was last seen in the film Dil Bechara which premiered soon after his death. He was found dead on 14 June 2020 in his house as he committed suicide. CBI is still investigating the real reason behind the actor’s death.

Rishi Kapoor

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor will remain one of the most successful actors in Bollywood. The actor is best known for his films like Do Dooni Char, Aurangzeb, Agnipath and many more. His film career spanned across 5 decades and was one of the most respected actors in the film industry. The actor passed away due to cancer on April 30, 2020.

Haruma Miura

Japanese actor and singer Haruma Miura became extremely popular after he made his appearance in Koizora in 2007. The actor was best known for his roles in films like The Eternal Zero, Attack on Titan, Gintama 2 and Two Weeks. The actor was found dead in his apartment in Tokyo on June 18, 2020. A suicide note was found in his house soon after.

YÅ«ko Takeuchi

Yūko Takeuchi was a Japanese actor. She was best known for her roles in suka, Pride,  FlashForward, and Miss Sherlock,  Ring and Yomigaeri. She had also dubbed the role of Rose in Titanic for its Fuji edition. The 40-year-old actor was found dead in her apartment Shibuya, Tokyo.

Nobuhiko Obayashi

Nobuhiko Obayashi was popular for his works as a director, screenwriter and editor for films, television and several ads in Japanese. He was known as the pioneer of experimental films in Japan. He was best known for his films like House, Lonely Heart,  Chizuko’s Younger Sister and many more. The director passed away from lung cancer at the age of 82 on 10 April 2020.

Kim Ki-Duk

Kim Ki-Duk was a South Korean film director. He was known as one of the most important contemporary Asian film directors. Kim Ki-Duk is most popularly known for his films like Pietà, a Silver Lion, 3-Iron and Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring. The director passed away recently on December 11 due to complications caused by COVID-19.

Benny Chan 

Benny Chan was a film director, producer and screenwriter from Hong Kong. He was best known for directing Jackie Chan films such as  New Police Story, Rob-B-Hood, and Shaolin. He also directed Heroic Duo, Divergence, Connected, and The White Storm. Benny Chan passed away with nasopharyngeal cancer in Hong Kong.
