Mita Vashisht: From Agnipankh To Kaagaz, How She Excels At Displaying Political Prowess In Her Characters

A look at how Mita Vashisht has excelled in characters having political prowess.

Beginning her career in 1989, with both Indian television and film industries, Mita Vashisht has never failed in displaying her talent in acting. In these 31 years, Mita Vashisht has made her place prominent in both the industries. Most recently, she played the role of MLA Asharfi Devi in Kaagaz, directed by Satish Kaushik. Her brilliant performance made us revisit some other performances of hers, where she displayed political prowess, like in Kaagaz.

In 2013, a TV show, Jodha Akbar, premiered on Zee TV. Based on the story of the Mughal King Akbar and his wife from the Rajput kingdom, Jodha, Jodha Akbar starred Rajat Tokas and Paridhi Sharma in the lead roles. Mita Vashisht in Jodha Akbar played the role of Begum Mah Chuchak. Mah Chuchak was Akbar’s evil stepmother, who conspired to get him killed. Mita Vashisht shone in the role, where she displayed the character’s evil politics.

Being a graduate from the National School of Drama, Mita Vashisht’s talent in acting has always been top-notch. She has also appeared in a drama, called Agnipankh. A production of ZEE Theater, Agnipankh is about a wealthy lady from an upper class, Baisaab Durgeshwari. The play is historical fiction, set in 1948. Mita Vashisht in Agnipankh plays the role of Baisaab, who runs the zamindari business of her family, and also takes all the decisions of the house. Baisaab Durgeshwari’s strict and political side was very well portrayed by Mita Vashisht.

In 2021, she starred as MLA Asharfi in Kaagaz. Her performance in the film is brilliant and she stands out as the MLA. She has portrayed the power in her role, despite keeping a calm demeanour of the high-level politician, very well. Also, her voice and dialogue delivery in the role make her seem like a real-life politician. She also delivered one of the best dialogues in Kaagaz, with utter perfection,”Galti sudhaarne ka matlab hai, galti sweekarna. Hamaare system ka masla galti sudhaarna nahi, sweekarna hai.”
