Talking about the plot of the film, Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, written by S Hussain Zaidi. The film celebrates the rise of a simple girl from Kathiawad who had no choice but to embrace the ways of destiny and turn them in a way that they became favourable towards her.

The first collaboration was between Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film has already been delayed several times due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The teaser of the film was also released a while ago and Alia has outdone herself once again with her character and everyone was all praises for her style. A section of the audience found Alia too naive for such a character but others celebrated her trying to do something different yet challenging.

This is a real-life story and Alia has breathed life into the character. The real story is about how Ganga ran away with the love of her life at a very young age and then was deceived by him as she was sold to a brothel for Rs. 500/-. She then worked her way out and became the biggest name under Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Gangubai ruled Kamathipura but never used her power to exploit young girls and women or forcefully led them into prostitution. Even After all the hardships, she faced in her life, she was determined to work for the betterment of all the other sex workers. She was a kind of a god woman for the sex workers and orphans.

Even though she ran a brothel she never forced anyone or asked them to work without their consent. For her, all women and children who were living in the Kamathipura were her children and she cared for them like a mother.

The major chunk of the movie is based on the book “Mafia Queens of Mumbai” by Hussain Zaidi. This is the fastest-made movie under the Bhansali Productions banner.
