Revisiting Ravindra Mankani’s show Baapmanus on his 65th birthday!
Ravindra Mankani is one of Maharashtra’s finest senior actors. He is a popular face and has been a part of many films and shows! He started off his acting career in the 1980s and is a theatre actor at heart. Born on 21st May 1956, this year the actor turns 65! Though, he has been part of many projects both big and small, one of his most memorable portrayals has been of Dadasaheb Zunjarrao, in the Zee show Baapmanus! Today, on the eve of his birthday, let us revisit this glorious family drama!

The plotline
Ravindra Mankani plays the titular role of Baapmanus, Dadashahed Zunjarrao and the drama follows the story of his family. It depicts the politics inside a family as they fight for property and power! Dadashaheb is a strong character that is wise and acts as a beacon of inspiration for his family members. He is married to Pooja Pawar’s character Aaisaheb on the show and together they have two children Surya and Nisha. They are strict parents but also soft at times. They are an important couple as Dadashaheb is a revered and honoured person in their village.
Dadashaheb’s son Surya always felt compelled to carry on his father’s legacy and good name forward. When all of Dadashaheb’s family begins to plot against him, Surya is the only one that backs Dadashaheb and supports him throughout. We see the journey of Dadasaheb as a father figure and Surya as an obedient and intense son on the show.
Surya works very hard to fill in Dadashaheb’s shoes but will his work be enough? Or will the rest of the family members be successful in their ploys to steal the power in the village?

Themes
The main themes of this show are rural politics, power struggles in a family, and the win of good over evil. One can be reminded of the Naik family of the Ratris Khel Chale series, but without the supernatural elements and a big addition of politics!
The acting
The show Baapmanus had a good run from 2017 to 2018 for a year and was greatly loved by fans. Mankani being a theatre person brought a lot of realness to his character and made him seem really fascinating. Suyash Tilak who played the role of Surya too who was once known for his romantic characters was seen in an intense role which fans loved! The enmity between Nisha and Geeta and their cat-fights were so real and entertaining to watch that fans actually believed the two actresses to be enemies but as it turns out, they’re very close friends!
Baapmanus is definitely a good watch if you like political dramas with enticing plot lines and larger than life figures like Dadasaheb. The show will definitely remind you of many political films in Marathi and Hindi languages!
